The structure sits where the Olympia-Radstadion was demolished in 2015. The arena opened on 27 September 2024. Inside, the mechanism performs a quiet sleight of hand. The 'Dual-Rise' system lifts the floor, a process that transforms the ice surface into a basketball hardwood without removing the ice entirely. The floor is natural ice, a surface that requires the 360° heating and cooling system to maintain its temper. A video cube of 41 million LEDs sits above the play. The capacity shifts with the game. It holds 10,796 for hockey, seating 10,013 and allowing 2,329 to stand. For basketball, the number rises to 11,500, and for a concert, it stretches to 12,500. The audience arrives at Toni-Merkens-Weg 1, walking past the green spaces of the Olympiapark district. The arena is the new home for EHC Red Bull München and FC Bayern Munich Basketball, replacing the Olympia Eishalle and the Olympiahalle. The name SAP Garden arrived in March 2019, chosen to distinguish the venue from the SAP Arena in Mannheim and to reflect the green roof that crowns it.
