Singapore National Cricket Ground
Singapore, Singapore
Formerly: Padang, Singapore Cricket Club Ground
The Padang is not a structure but a wide expanse of land. It sits in the heart of the city, bounded by roads rather than walls. The Singapore Cricket Club founded here in 1852, putting up a pavilion that same year.
The field itself is natural grass. It has changed shape over the decades as land was reclaimed around it. In 1889 the boundaries were pushed out, giving the oval more room. The location is a national monument now, gazetted in 2022.
The venue hosts cricket, and occasionally other events. The Singapore Cricket Association manages it, and the national team plays here. There was a renovation in 2003 that cost roughly SGD 17 million, which added the Stumps Bar and updated the facilities. The seating is not permanent in the way a modern stadium is; it relies on temporary structures for large crowds. The capacity is unclear, with some references to 35,000 for special occasions.
International matches have been played here, including One-Day Internationals in 1999 and 2000. More recently, the team prepared for the 2026 ACC Men's Challenger Cup. It is a place of history, but not one that shouts about it.
