Sótonyi László Sportcsarnok

The hall does not shout for attention. Before the expansion, the building held barely over four hundred people, a mix of seats and standing room that suited the town’s size. Things changed when the project began in December 2013, though the work dragged on until the doors reopened in August 2016.

The renovation added a new stand with 997 numbered seats . Alongside the extra space came a VIP room, a café, and a cloakroom. The floor itself is a world-class wooden parquet. It is here that the men’s team Csurgói KK competes in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, and where the women’s club Csurgói Női Kézilabda Club plays its home games.

The building carries the name of László Sótonyi, a local physical education teacher and handball coach credited with laying the foundations for the sport in the town. That connection remains central to what happens inside. The doors were not just opened for games; they also host concerts by bands such as Tankcsapda, Mobilmánia, and Beatrice. There is a fitness center installed in the second phase, and a video room. The management rests with the Csurgói Sportcsarnok Nonprofit Kft., an entity created in 2008 to oversee the site.

Nothing in the structure feels temporary.
