Spiš Aréna

The grounds at Za Hornádom 15 are not the modern ice arena. Spišská Nová Ves has two distinct sporting venues, and the football stadium retains a quieter, more historical character. It sits apart from the Spiš Aréna , which opened in 1982. The football pitch itself was laid down nearly a century earlier in 1928.

The site has changed hands several times over the decades, moving from a municipal athletics club to the Sokol organization before finally falling under the city’s management in 1990. The physical footprint is small in comparison to other Slovak stadiums, yet it holds its own place in the local culture. The grandstand is built on the original earthen banks that once supported a larger crowd.
