Stadium
St. Jakob Arena
Basel, Switzerland
The St. Jakob Arena in Basel is an indoor ice hockey rink, distinct from the football stadium and the multi-purpose hall that share the same sports park. The club EHC Basel calls it home; they took to the ice here after leaving their previous venue in 2002, having played at the St. Jakobshalle since 1976.
Inside, the scale is more apparent. The ice itself is a wide, white rectangle, marked with the yellow and red lines of a hockey rink.
The venue serves the club in the Swiss League, the second tier of Swiss ice hockey. They were promoted to the top flight for a season in 2005–06 before returning to this level. The capacity of the arena is approximately 6,600, though the seating feels more intimate for the rink.
