The bookends of the complex tell the story of two different eras of sport in Brno. The original building, now called the Small Hall, opened on 14 March 1975 after construction had begun in 1969. It stands near the newer addition, the Large Hall, which rose from the same site decades later. The first phase was completed by the city’s own sports company, Brnosport, while the second was finished by OK mont after the project had been paused for years.

Inside, the floor is covered in natural oak parquet, hard-wearing and level, laid down for basketball and handball and still used for those games today.

The newer structure is the hall that can hold 2,900 people for a seated match or 5,500 for a concert. It was built to replace the old municipal venue, but it stands on the same patch of earth.

Basket Brno and the Bulldogs floorball team are the main tenants here. The complex has hosted international titles, including the 2010 FIBA Women’s World Championship and the 2025 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket. The old hall still hosts local matches, but the larger games are now played under the curved roof of the newer building.
