The Belmont Ground

Whitstable, United Kingdom

The Belmont Ground sits on Belmont Road in Whitstable, Kent. The ground is old enough to have existed before the world turned into concrete, and it has stayed that way, with a seated stand on the south side and covered terracing behind the goals. Whitstable Town F.C. have played there since 1888, when a match against Herne Bay was the first recorded game on the pitch. The club was originally Whitstable United.

The surface is artificial now — 3G turf, laid down in 2022 after a £600,000 renovation that also brought new floodlights and dugouts. Floodlights were first installed in the mid-to-late 1980s. The capacity is 3,000. The highest attendance, 2,905, came on 29 March 2025 during an FA Vase semi-final against Hartpury University, a match Whitstable Town won 2-0 on aggregate to reach the final. A previous record of approximately 2,500 was set in the 1957–58 FA Cup tie against Gravesend & Northfleet, when the town gathered round to see if they could upset the odds.

The Belmont Ground is also home to Whitstable Cricket Club and Faversham Strike Force FC, which means the place hosts more than just one kind of sport. The ground is not a monument, but it is a place where people still watch football without needing an app or a subscription. It does not pretend to be anything else.
