The Dovecote Stadium

The ground sits in a backwater of Leicestershire. It is a site defined by its age and its owners. The pitch has been in use since 1891. The owners, the Clayton family, have held the lease since 1975.

The stadium is a collection of modest blocks and terraces. It holds 2,500 spectators, a mix of seated and standing. The surface is natural grass. In June 2024 the club carried out drainage works to address waterlogging, a routine intervention for a ground that has never hidden its terrain. The site is accessed from Butthole Lane, a name that has not changed since the club arrived.

Shepshed Dynamo, the current tenant, traces its roots back to the mid-nineteenth century, though the name is recent. The club reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup in 1996–97, losing 6–0 to Carlisle United away. They attracted attention for signing Ibrahim Bah, a striker who later played for Derby County. Martin O'Neill managed the predecessor side, Shepshed Charterhouse, in 1989, but his tenure was brief. The club has since drifted through the lower reaches of the National League System, surviving on a combination of local loyalty and the Clayton family’s quiet sponsorship.

The most notable visitors to the ground are those who arrive for a cup tie. Otherwise, the matches are played in front of small crowds, often numbering fewer than a thousand. The ground has no permanent floodlights, so evening fixtures are rare. The club uses Pitchero as its online platform, a modern touch in an old setting.
