The Spiers & Hartwell Stadium

There is something distinctly local about the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium. The ground replaced the old Common Road site after it was sold off for housing in 2006, a transaction that forced the club to ground-share with Worcester City at St George's Lane during the 2011–12 season while the new facility was being finalized.

The delay to the opening was the real story here. Although the ground was completed in March 2011, the opening was postponed until July 2012. The hold-up was a nearby roundabout; the access modifications cost around £700,000 and kept the stadium under wraps for another year. When it finally opened, former Manchester United and Aston Villa manager Ron Atkinson cut the ribbon for a friendly between Manchester United Legends and Evesham United Old Boys.

The playing surface is natural grass, and the capacity stands at 3,000, including 300 seated spaces. The venue hosted the club’s first-ever run in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup during the 2008–09 season. That campaign saw the stadium host qualifying rounds, including a notable victory over Rushden & Diamonds.

Today the stadium continues to host Southern League matches and FA Cup Preliminary and Qualifying Rounds. There are no major commercial concerts on the diary and no significant non-football incidents to distract from the game. The project was funded by a grant from the Football Foundation and contributions from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund.
