West End Park International Cricket Stadium
Doha, Qatar
Formerly: Al-Arabi Stadium, Asian Town Cricket Stadium
The West End Park International Cricket Stadium sits within the West End Park development in Doha, a venue that has absorbed the shifting roles of its tenants rather than remaining static. It opened in June 2013 alongside the Grand Mall Hypermarket, a commercial anchor that helps define the area as much as the sporting fixtures do. The ground now carries its current title as the primary home for the Qatar national cricket team since they gained T20I status in 2019.
What distinguishes the venue is how quickly it adapted to international demands. The pitch is a natural grass surface, described in reports as a balanced, flat track offering good pace and bounce, a description that suggests a playing area designed for traditional cricket rhythms. In November 2024, the ground underwent a significant refurbishment ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Sub Regional Qualifier B, which saw the laying of seven new international-standard pitches.
It hosted a three-match ODI series between Afghanistan and the Netherlands in January 2022 as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, and has been announced as a future home for Afghanistan's Test matches. The venue also hosted the first-ever ICC-sanctioned women's international championship in January 2014, featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and Ireland. The capacity is consistently cited as 13,000 spectators, though the wider park project includes an open-air amphitheatre with a capacity of 14,500. The venue is managed by the Qatar Cricket Association, which maintains the official information at https://www.qatarcricketassociation.org/.
