About

The CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship operates as the premier youth football competition for women across the region, organized by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). It serves as the primary qualification tournament for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Founded in 2008, the event functions at the continental level, acting as the top-tier youth championship for its member associations.

The structure of the tournament has shifted to align with global changes. Starting in 2025, following the expansion of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup to 24 teams and its move to an annual schedule, CONCACAF adopted a new two-round qualifying format. The initial stage involves 28 teams split into six groups, with group winners and the best runners-up advancing to the Final Round. That final stage features 12 teams—comprising the top four ranked nations plus eight qualifiers—divided into three groups of four. The group winners and the best runner-up secure places at the World Cup.

Historical results show a clear hierarchy among the participating nations. The United States has secured the majority of titles, winning editions in 2008, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2024. Canada claimed victory in 2010, while Mexico won in 2013. In the most recent edition, the United States defeated Haiti in the final, marking Haiti's emergence as a competitive force that challenges the traditional dominance of the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Participation is determined by CONCACAF rankings and qualification rounds rather than promotion or relegation. The competition remains distinct from the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship, which serves a different purpose as the qualifier for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
