The Kings World Cup Nations is a 7-a-side football tournament organized by the Kings League. This digital entertainment product sits outside the traditional football pyramid and is not recognized by FIFA or any national football association. The entity behind the competition was founded in 2023 by former FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué and Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos. It features national teams composed of streamers, celebrities, and former professionals rather than official senior squads.
The inaugural edition, known as the Kings World Cup, took place in June 2024 in Mexico and featured club teams from the Kings League, with Porcinos FC emerging as winners. The specific Nations format was introduced subsequently, with the first edition held in January 2025 in Italy. The 2026 edition involved 20 national teams divided into five groups of four. The structure consists of a group stage where group winners advance directly to the Quarter-Finals. The five runners-up and the best third-placed team compete in a "Last Chance" round, with three winners advancing to the Quarter-Finals. The knockout stage includes Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and a Final.
Brazil won the 2025 edition, defeating Colombia 6-2 in the final. Brazil also won the 2026 edition, defeating Chile 6-2 in the final. The current season features teams such as Team Indonesia, Team Brazil, Team Chile, Team France, Team India, and Team Japan. Notable sponsors include Red Bull, Spotify, McDonald's, and Adidas. The competition distinguishes itself from traditional international tournaments by its hybrid nature of sport and esports, its 7-a-side format, and its focus on digital content creation.
