About

LFA First Division stands as the premier tier of football in Liberia, organised by the Liberia Football Association. It has operated since 1956, following the establishment of the governing body in 1936. The competition utilises a double round-robin format, requiring clubs to face one another twice during the campaign. Unlike leagues that feature championship playoffs, the title is decided by the team accumulating the highest point total at the conclusion of the season.

The structure allows for movement between tiers. Two to four clubs move between the First Division and the LFA Second Division each year, though the exact number varies by season. Relegation playoffs have been used in the past to determine final positions, adding complexity to the end of the campaign. This system ensures a dynamic flow of talent between the top flight and the second tier.

Historically, the league has undergone sponsorship-related name changes. It was known as the 'Orange Premier League' from 2010 to 2015 and later as the 'LFA-Orange First Division'. These titles reflect commercial partnerships rather than structural changes. The competition maintains a clear distinction from the LFA Cup, which is a knockout tournament, and the Super Cup, contested between the league champion and the cup winner.

Success in the division has been dominated by a few established sides. Mighty Barrolle and Invincible Eleven hold the record for the most titles, each securing 13 championships. This concentration of victories highlights the historical power balance within the league. In the 2024/25 season, FC Fassell claimed the championship, continuing the cycle of competition among the participating clubs. The league does not currently maintain a fixed number of teams, with recent seasons featuring between 14 and 16 participants.
