Ligue 1 (Burkina Faso) 2026/27

Ligue 1 serves as the premier professional football division in Burkina Faso. Established in 1961, the competition initially operated under the name *Championnat de Haute-Volta* before reflecting the country's 1984 identity change to Burkina Faso. The league functions as the top tier of the national football pyramid, directly supplying the second division with relegated sides while facilitating promotion for winners from regional structures.

The tournament is organized by the Burkinabé Football Federation and employs a straightforward double round-robin format. Each team contests 30 matches against its opponents, with the title awarded to the side accumulating the most points at the conclusion of the regular season. This structure eliminates playoffs, distinguishing it from regional counterparts that utilise postseason finals. Relegation sees the bottom two clubs drop to the Deuxième Division, while promotion from the lower tier varies based on federation decisions regarding league size.

Historical success is shared between Étoile Filante de Ouagadougou and ASFA Yennenga, both claiming 13 league titles. Étoile Filante also holds the record for consecutive victories, winning five titles in a row between 1990 and 1994. ASFA Yennenga replicated this achievement with a five-match winning streak from 2009 to 2013. Rahimo FC entered the record books in the 2024–25 season, securing their second championship. Other notable historical winners include Silures Bobo-Dioulasso and USFA, who have each accumulated seven titles.

The competition runs parallel to the Coupe du Faso, a knockout tournament. The league champion faces the cup winner in the annual Super Cup, officially known as the *Supercoupe du Burkina Faso*. While Étoile Filante dominates this fixture with seven triumphs, AS Douanes claimed the most recent edition in 2024. The league maintains its traditional name without a prominent commercial sponsor, relying on its established identity within the nation.**
