About

Ligue Haïtienne, also known as the Championnat National de Football, sits at Level 1 of the Haitian football pyramid. Governed by the Fédération Haïtienne de Football (FHF), it serves as the top-tier professional competition in the country. The league was established in 1937, giving it a history that spans nearly a century.

While the standard structure involves a single national table, the current reality is defined by adaptation to local instability. Recent seasons, including the ongoing 2025 campaign, have utilised modified formats to manage security and infrastructure issues. The competition is currently divided into three regional groups, featuring clubs such as Baltimore, Capoise, FICA, Ouanaminthe, Real du Cap, and Tempête. This approach differs from the traditional round-robin model used in more stable environments, reflecting the irregular nature of Haitian football.

Historically, the league operated under a two-stage model known as Ouverture and Fermeture, which produced separate champions for each half of the season. This format, similar to systems found in Latin America, has seen exceptions and suspensions due to civil unrest. The period between 2021 and 2023, for instance, saw no official competition. Despite these disruptions, the league maintains a system of promotion and relegation with Division 2, the second tier, although the number of teams affected varies by season.

Racing Club Haïtien holds the record for the most titles, having won the championship fourteen times, with their last success in 2009. Other notable clubs include Violette AC with nine titles, FICA with eight, and Tempête FC with five. The current reigning champion is Real Hope FA, who secured the 2024 title. Some sources attribute the 2025 victory to Baltimore SC, highlighting the fragmented nature of recent results. The league has previously been sponsored by Digicel, appearing under the name Ligue Haïtienne Digicel D1.
