About

The OFC Professional League represents a new era for club football in Oceania. Launched in 2025 after planning began in 2019, the competition entered its inaugural season in 2026 with eight charter clubs. Unlike the long-standing OFC Men's Champions League, which focuses on continental supremacy and has moved to qualify for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, the Pro League specifically serves as the pathway to the FIFA Club World Cup.

The structure is designed to elevate the standard of play across the region. Previous competitions were often semi-professional, but this initiative aims for a fully professional environment. The format involves a regular season played over five circuit rounds in various locations, concluding with a playoff stage. The top four teams enter a Leaders Group while the bottom four compete in a Challengers Group, eventually leading to semi-finals and a Grand Final.

The participating clubs hail from seven nations plus Australia, aiming to bridge geographical divides through regular sport. In the opening campaign, Auckland FC secured the title by defeating South Melbourne FC 2–1 in the final match. There is no promotion or relegation for the first season as the competition establishes its footing.

This competition distinguishes itself from other regional tournaments through its focus on professional development and direct access to global tournaments. While the Champions League remains the region's primary continental cup, the Pro League offers a different route for clubs seeking international exposure. The inclusion of clubs from diverse locations helps unify the football community in Oceania under a single professional banner.
