Professional League (Oman) 2026/27

The Oman Professional League operates as the premier domestic football competition in the sultanate, sitting at Level 1 of the national pyramid. It sits above the Oman First Division League and is governed by the Oman Football Association. The competition transitioned to full professional status in 2013, rebranding from its earlier incarnation as the Oman Football League. While the current season features 14 clubs, the structure relies on a double round-robin format where teams play each other twice. The winner is determined by the final standings without play-offs, while the bottom two sides face automatic relegation.

The league’s primary distinction lies in its format compared to the Sultan Qaboos Cup. Founded in 1972, the Cup utilizes a knockout system, whereas the professional league operates on a points-based model. Both competitions serve as the main pathways for qualification to AFC continental tournaments, but the league represents the highest domestic honour. Historically, Dhofar S.C.S.C. holds the record for success with 12 titles, followed by Fanja with nine. The current champions are Al-Seeb, who secured back-to-back victories in the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons. Al-Nahda claimed the inaugural professional title when the competition changed its status in 2013.

Relegation from the top flight triggers promotion from the First Division through a combination of automatic spots and playoffs. The number of promoted teams fluctuates depending on league expansion plans. Individual records include Abdul Aziz Al-Muqbali, who scored 21 goals in a single season for Al-Suwaiq during 2017–18. The competition was initially known as the Omantel Elite League before adopting its current name. It remains the central stage for Omani football, distinct from regional cups and older amateur structures.
