The QSL Cup operates as a mid-season domestic tournament for football clubs in Qatar. Founded in 2009 by the Qatar Stars League (QSL) management, it was originally designed to provide competitive fixtures during international breaks. While the Amir of Qatar Cup (Emir Cup) remains the primary national knockout tournament organized by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and open to all tiers, this competition serves a distinct purpose within the domestic calendar.
Historically restricted to top-flight teams, the format has evolved to include lower-division clubs. The 2025–26 edition featured 20 teams from the QSL, First, and Second Divisions. Participants entered a group stage before the top 14 advanced to knockout rounds. This structure contrasts with previous seasons, such as 2024–25, which involved fewer teams in a similar group-and-knockout configuration.
Success in the competition has been concentrated among established clubs. Al-Gharafa SC holds the record with three titles, secured in 2009 and during the 2017–18 and 2018–19 campaigns. Al-Sadd SC and Al-Duhail SC have each claimed two victories. Al-Duhail SC entered the current season as the defending champion after defeating Al-Arabi SC 2–1 in the 2024–25 final. Umm Salal SC won the preceding edition in 2023–24. The tournament continues to adjust its participant eligibility and structure as part of its ongoing development.
