About

The Supertaça de Angola is the annual super cup competition of Angolan football, organized by the Federação Angolana de Futebol (FAF). It sits at the top of the domestic cup hierarchy, serving as a curtain-raiser for the new season. The tournament is distinct from the Girabola top-tier league and the Taça de Angola primary knockout cup.

The competition was founded in 1982, although the first official edition was not played until 1985; the years 1983 and 1984 were skipped. The format traditionally involved two legs between the Girabola champion and the Taça de Angola winner. If a team achieved the domestic double, the Super Cup was contested between the league champion and the cup runner-up. In recent years, particularly since 2021, the format has frequently been a single match, often played in Benguela at the Estádio Nacional de Ombaka, due to logistical constraints or scheduling conflicts with continental competitions.

Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto is the most successful club in the competition's history with 9 titles. Atlético Petróleos de Luanda is the second most successful with 8 titles. Other notable winners include Atlético Sport Aviação with 6 titles, GD Interclube with 4, and CD Recreativo do Libolo with 2. Recent winners include Desportivo da Huíla, Sagrada Esperança, and Petro de Luanda. The 2021 edition was initially annulled by the FAF due to protests over the single-leg format but was later reinstated for Sagrada Esperança. The 2022 edition was won by Desportivo da Huíla after a penalty shootout against Petro de Luanda, though Petro faced sanctions for conduct during the ceremony. The 2023 edition was delayed due to a suspension of Petro de Luanda by the FAF but was eventually played in October 2023, with Petro de Luanda winning 1-0 against Académica do Lobito. The competition does not involve promotion or relegation.
