The Israel Super Cup, officially known as Aluf HaAlufim (Champion of Champions), serves as an annual curtain-raiser for Israeli football. It brings together the winners of the Israeli Premier League (Ligat Ha'Al) and the Israel State Cup for a single decisive match. This fixture sits at the apex of the domestic pyramid, though it carries less weight than the league championship or the cup final. The tournament operates as a ceremonial opener rather than a competitive league or knockout structure, establishing a tradition that began in 1957. Official sanctioning by the Israel Football Association (IFA) arrived later, during the 1968–69 season, following various stints under different names like the Zivi Tzafriri Cup and the Ilanshil-Polio Cup.
The competition has experienced significant interruptions throughout its history, including a long hiatus from 1991 to 2014 before being revived in 2015. The format is straightforward: a single match decided by extra time and penalties if necessary. If the league and cup winner is the same club, the league runner-up steps in to ensure a contest takes place. Maccabi Tel Aviv stands as the most successful club with eight official titles, while Hapoel Be'er Sheva claimed the 2025 edition with a 2–1 victory. Notable historical encounters include the high-scoring 1985 final and the 2016 match, both resulting in emphatic scores. The event remains distinct from the regular season competitions, acting solely as a one-off ceremony to mark the start of the new campaign.
