The Superliga is the premier football competition in Colombia, operating at the top level of the national pyramid. Established in 1948 by DIMAYOR (División Mayor del Fútbol Profesional Colombiano), a body formed by the clubs themselves, the tournament is currently branded as Liga BetPlay Dimayor. It follows a unique dual-tournament system that features two independent championships within a single calendar year: the Torneo Apertura, running from February to June, and the Torneo Finalización, held from July to December. Since 2002, these two halves have awarded separate titles, a structure introduced by a split in 1968 that initially did not create independent championships. Each tournament adheres to a three-stage format beginning with a single round-robin regular season of 19 matches. The top eight teams advance to semi-final groups of four played as double round-robins, culminating in a two-legged final. The league determines qualification for continental competitions, with the winners of the Apertura and Finalización competing in the Superliga de Colombia. Atlético Nacional holds the record for the most titles with 18, followed by Millonarios with 16 and América de Cali with 15. The current reigning champions are Junior, who won the 2026 Apertura, and Atlético Nacional, who claimed the 2024 Finalización. Promotion and relegation involve two teams moving between the Primera A and Primera B. Relegation is decided by a three-year aggregate points average known as the Tabla del Descenso, while promotion is awarded to the Primera B champion and the leader of the Primera B aggregate table. The league includes clubs such as Santa Fe, Deportivo Pereira, Bucaramanga, Deportivo Cali, Atlético Nacional, and Junior.
