Sporting Lești defeated Adjud 4-2 in the Romanian Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, booking their place in the final at the expense of the home side. The visitors fell behind early but rallied after Adjud reduced their numbers in the second half. The victory completes a comeback that began when Trandafir opened the scoring in the twenty-fifth minute.
P. Voinea equalised before the interval, then Sporting Lești took control once the game opened up. A goal in the sixty-fifth minute gave them the lead, and they added another in the seventieth to put distance between the sides. Adjud had only one player on the pitch after the red card in the fiftieth minute, and by then the momentum had shifted.
The hosts managed a late response through a goal in the ninety-first minute, but it was too little, too late. Sporting Lești had already sealed the result with a fourth goal in the eighty-fifth minute. Two dismissals in the second half — the first at fifty minutes and the second at eighty-one — turned what might have been a closer contest into a rout.
Adjud came into this match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Târgu Secuiesk, but their recent form offered little protection against a Sporting Lești side that looked comfortable in possession. The away team had not been as consistent in their previous outings, losing 5-0 to Chikserheda and drawing 3-3 with Oțelul, but they found their rhythm against the home side.
The result means Sporting Lești will now prepare for the final, while Adjud's cup campaign ends with the runners-up trophy. The two red cards will need to be reviewed by the disciplinary committee, but for now the focus is on the achievement of reaching the last match of the domestic competition.
