CSM Adjud

There is no old enemy for CSM Adjud 1946 to point to across the county — the club is too young, and the rivalries that once ran through Adjud football belong to a team that stopped existing before this one started. What the current side inherited instead was a name it had to earn back: when it registered in the summer of 2021, it took 1946 into its title because that was the year a side from the town, then called CFR Adjud, first played in Romania's national championship. The club on the pitch now is a different legal entity, built from nothing five years ago, but it borrowed a date rather than invent one.

Locomotiva Adjud, a predecessor from decades earlier, won the Vrancea county championship in 1968-69 and again in 1971-72, years before anyone in the town was thinking about CSM Adjud 1946. The modern club, then playing as FCM Adjud, took its own county title, Liga IV Vrancea, in 2009-10 and earned promotion to Liga III. It slipped back down at some point, then repeated the trick in 2022-23, winning Liga IV again and returning to Liga III for the 2023-24 season.

Marian Drăgiță, a graduate of the club, serves as its president. Andrei Întuneric coached the side through the promotion push that put it back in the third tier. Matches are played at the Stadionul Municipal in Adjud, a ground that holds 5,000, with the team turning out in white and blue.

Liga III is where the club sits now, still working out what level it belongs to after two promotions in under fifteen years of existence, with a Cupa României run to fit around a league campaign that will decide whether this spell in the third division lasts longer than the last one.
