Midtjylland take three points from Thisted in opening round
Midtjylland beat Thisted 4:1 in the opening match of the Second Division Group 1 regular season on Saturday. The hosts made a statement in front of their own supporters, moving to the top of the early standings with a performance that showed they did not travel to make up the numbers. To be fair, Thisted had picked up a point in their previous outing against Brabrand, but this was a different matter entirely.
The visitors were on the back foot from the first whistle. Midtjylland struck at the fourth minute, catching Thisted's defence before they had settled into their shape. They doubled the advantage at fifteen, and by then the visitors were chasing shadows rather than building any kind of rhythm.
And here's the thing about these early rounds — momentum carries weight. Midtjylland added a third at twenty-eight minutes, a goal that shifted more than the scoreboard; it shifted the psychology of the game. Thisted's manager had to adjust something, though what he changed at half-time remains anyone's guess.
The second half offered little reprieve for the away side. Midtjylland scored again at sixty-three and closed the scoring at sixty-nine, a fourth straight win would have been a dream start, but this was only their first match of the campaign. Thisted's record now sits at one point from six games, and they have work to do.
Midtjylland move into third place on eleven points, while Thisted drop deeper into twelfth. The hosts had won three of their last five, including a clean sheet against Nesbju, whereas Thisted have lost five of six and conceded twelve goals. The gap between them on Saturday was wider than the table suggests.
