Derby County U21 saw off Reading 3-1 in Premier League 2, Division One on Monday evening. The visitors took all three points at the Madejski Stadium, extending their unbeaten run to two matches after a win and a draw.
Reading started brightly enough, taking the lead through J. Oguntolu in the 34th minute. By then the home side were pushing forward, but Derby came back with equal force. J. Jones levelled things up just after the hour mark, then C. Smith put the visitors ahead in the 70th minute.
The match opened up after the break with several changes. I. Gordon went off for Reading in the 59th minute, replaced by K. Abrefa before R. Offor came on twice in quick succession. C. Wilson joined the Reading side at 72 minutes, while Derby brought on J. Jones in the 76th minute.
Derby sealed it late on when J. Osong found the net in the 90th minute plus eight. It ended a quiet spell for the visitors who had been content to sit deep and soak it up after going ahead.
Reading had 57% possession but only managed four shots on target compared to Derby's six. The hosts registered 94 attacks against 73 for the visitors, though efficiency clearly favoured the away side.
Reading remain 15th with two points from two games, while Derby move up to fifth place with four points. The result keeps Reading's hopes of a strong start in the division firmly in question.
