AFC Bournemouth U21

For a Bournemouth academy player, the U21 side is the last room before the first team and the Vitality Stadium. Since April 2025 that room has had its own address: the AFC Bournemouth Performance Centre at Canford Magna, near Wimborne, built for £32 million, with a stand that holds 344. Some fixtures still shift to the Vitality Stadium itself, the ground the age group exists to prepare players for.

The club dates to 1899, when it played as Boscombe. The red-and-black stripes came later, adopted in 1971 and modelled on AC Milan's, with gold worked into the trim since. The nickname The Cherries, current since around 1910, is used for the U21s exactly as it is for the first team.

Age-group football at this club has produced a section title rather than a national one. Bournemouth's U21s have not won the Professional Development League or the Premier League Cup outright, but the 2024/25 season closed with the South Division of the Professional Development League to their name — a group win, not the league itself, and still the clearest mark this side has left. It sets the target for the group coming through now: hold that division, then push for the final the South title only qualifies them to reach.
