Swansea and Wrexham clash with promotion in mind

Swansea City host Wrexham on Saturday evening in the 33rd league meeting between the two clubs, with both sides currently chasing a Premier League return.

Vitor Matos' Swansea go into the fixture top of the Championship after an unbeaten start to the season, their midweek win over Watford drawing praise for a one-touch move that started the opening goal. Goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux says that form has earned the Swans a measure of respect from the rest of the division.

Wrexham arrive on the back of a 3-0 win at Millwall, their first victory of the campaign, having added Joe Worrall and Callum O'Hare to the squad on deadline day. Phil Parkinson's side finished last season seventh in the Championship, seven points above Swansea in 11th, and ended the campaign as the best-placed Welsh club in the English pyramid for the first time since 2000-01.

Vigouroux expects a different examination of his side this weekend.

Cardiff City's promotion from League One means Wales' three heavyweight clubs sit together in the second tier for only the third time, with a first joint appearance in the Premier League still unmatched by any of the three. For Swansea, the derby that matters most remains the one against Cardiff; for Wrexham, it has traditionally been local meetings with Chester and Shrewsbury Town. But Saturday's fixture, played out between clubs more than 100 miles apart, has taken on a rivalry of its own now that both have their eyes on the same prize.
