Gianni Infantino to Seek Fourth Term as FIFA President

FIFA confirmed Infantino will run again in the March 2027 election, defying UEFA-led pressure to step down after his World Cup stake sale plan collapsed.

Gianni Infantino will stand for a fourth term as FIFA president, the organisation confirmed on Sunday, dismissing weeks of pressure to walk away after his sale of World Cup stakes collapsed.

Infantino has faced calls to quit since abandoning the FIFA Forward Enterprise scheme. UEFA has led the opposition, lodging legal filings in the United States in an attempt to force him out, while Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation also rejected the plans when they were revealed.

He has held the presidency since 2016, succeeding Sepp Blatter, and was re-elected unopposed in 2019 and 2023. He first announced his intention to seek a fourth term back in April, and retains the backing of the African and South American confederations even as UEFA pushes for a change at the top. No rival candidate has come forward. FIFA rules cap a president at four terms, so a win in March 2027 would carry Infantino through to 2031.

Infantino made his comments in Katowice, where he arrived for the opening of the women's under-20s World Cup in Poland.
