Raphinha Wants to Extend Contract and Retire at Barcelona
Barcelona's top scorer says he intends to sign a new deal and finish his career at the club, after leading La Liga with nine goals this season.
Raphinha says he intends to sign a new contract at Barcelona and, all being well, to see out his career there.
His current deal runs to 2028, signed with the idea, as he put it, that he would be 30 or 31 by the time it expired. He now believes he has "a few more years" left in him.
The 29-year-old has made the strongest possible case for that extension. He leads La Liga's scoring charts with nine goals, two clear of Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe, and has 11 goals and three assists in seven appearances for Barcelona this season, including a hat-trick. Barcelona have taken maximum points from their opening six league fixtures, 18 out of 18.
He was left out of this year's Ballon d'Or nominations despite that start to the campaign., and
Flick named Raphinha the club's first captain this season. Whatever the final terms, a renewal would keep the division's top scorer at Camp Nou well beyond the current deal's 2028 expiry.
