Kania Gostyń forward Oskar Kordus dies in freak deer crash
Oskar Kordus, 20, died in hospital after a deer hit by another car smashed through his BMW's windscreen near Gostyń. His fourth-tier club Kania mourns him.
He was driving between Krajewice and Grabonóg at about 6am on Monday when a deer thrown across the road by an oncoming car came through the windscreen of his BMW.
The animal had been hit by a Volkswagen travelling in the opposite direction. The deer, a roe, went through the windscreen, and Kordus's car left the road and rolled into a ditch. The driver of the Volkswagen was not hurt.
The State Fire Service in Gostyń said that on arrival, one of the injured had no vital signs. "Firefighters began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. After the Emergency Medical Services Team arrived, medical procedures continued. Vital signs were restored, and the injured person was transported by air ambulance helicopter to a hospital in Poznań," the service said.
Doctors could not save him. The district prosecutor's office in Gostyń said Kordus died at about 10.30pm local time on Monday, according to Przegląd Sportowy, which drew on the local outlet Gostyn24.
Kania play in the fourth tier of Polish football. "With great sadness and disbelief we accepted the news of the death of our player, Oskar Kordus," it said, and offered condolences to his family and relatives.
