England beat 10-man Czech Republic in Nations League

England beat the Czech Republic 2:0 away in Prague in round two of their UEFA Nations League group, with Pavel Šulc sent off for the hosts on 25 minutes.

Šulc, who has one goal in his short spell with the national side since joining up in March, picked up a straight red for a foul on Elliot Anderson, leaving the Czechs to play more than an hour a man down at Fortuna Arena. England made the numbers count only after the break. Anthony Gordon put them ahead on 47 minutes, finishing off a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Harry Kane made it 2:0 on 69 minutes.

England finished the match with 68% of possession and six shots on target to the Czechs' two, and moved up to second in the group on three points. The Czech Republic sit bottom without a point.

"We approached the game very professionally, and in the second half we were able to step it up. A deserved win," said Thomas Tuchel. "The opponents' early red card didn't do the game many favours as a spectacle, but we carried on playing our own game and saw it through to the win — that's the main thing."

Speaking separately about the same performance, Tuchel added: "We played the second half professionally. We were sharper, quicker, and worked the ball better. Keeping a clean sheet always matters — it gives everyone a good feeling."

England travel to face Croatia on 3 October, a fixture that will also feature Luka Modrić, who was confirmed earlier this month to continue playing for Croatia at 41 through this Nations League run against the Czech Republic, Spain and England. The Czechs, meanwhile, host Spain the same day still searching for their first points in the group.
