About the player
Axel Jamir Maldonado Manzanares came up through the CD Olimpia academy and joined the senior squad in July 2021. Right-footed and comfortable either as a defensive midfielder or at right-back, he has worn the number 20 shirt for a side that has kept winning silverware around him.
His career has been repeatedly interrupted by injury. In April 2024, during the Torneo Clausura, he tore a cruciate ligament and needed surgery, a setback that ended his season there and then and ruled him out of the final. Olimpia won that Clausura title without him. A further injury layoff cost him much of the 2025 season, and he did not return to fitness until March 2026. When Olimpia beat Real España in the Torneo Clausura 2025 final, he did not take the field. He had earlier won the Liga Nacional Apertura 2023 with the club.
At international level, Maldonado was included in Honduras' squad for the under-23 side at the 2023 Pan American Games, though he has not made an appearance for the senior national team.
No transfer fees or individual awards are attached to his name; his career to date is defined less by a signature moment than by the pattern of injury and recovery running alongside Olimpia's run of domestic titles.
