Ágúst Orri Þorsteinsson

Breidablik sold him, then bought him back for exactly what they had received a year earlier. That was the deal that made Ágúst Orri Þorsteinsson: a return, in January 2023, on the same figure the Icelandic club had banked when Malmö FF signed him in March 2022. Neither sum was made public.

He came through at Breidablik and made his first appearance for the senior side on 9 August 2021, staying until the move to Sweden the following March. In Malmö he played for the youth teams, U17 and U19, rather than the first team. The buy-back put him back in Iceland, and it did not hold him there long.

In August 2023 Genoa CFC paid 300,000 euros — around 40 million Icelandic krónur — for him. Italy followed the Swedish pattern: he spent most of two years with the youth sides. In February 2025 he went back to Breidablik once more and signed a contract running to 2028.

The international record is the steadier line. He first played for Iceland at U15 level in 2019, twice, and appeared five times at U17 in 2021. The U19 spell was his longest: 13 matches across 2022 and 2023, with two goals. Two U20 caps followed in 2024, and he has been with the U21 side since that year, seven appearances so far. He has not been called up by the senior national team.

A midfielder and winger who works off his left foot, he is now at the club that developed him, with the two moves abroad behind him.
