James Rodríguez signs for Atlético Nacional

About the player
Atanásio Afonso Miranda Cunha came through Sporting's academy from the Algarve. He progressed through the age groups at Sporting — U15, U17, U19 and U23 — before signing his first professional contract with the club in March 2024, at the age of seventeen.
Along the way he won the national U15 title with Sporting in the 2021/22 season, and he was capped four times by Portugal's U17 side between October 2023 and March 2024, having also represented the U15 national team.
His breakthrough with the senior set-up came with Sporting CP B, where he now wears the number 84 shirt. Atanásio made his debut for the B team on 9 August 2025, in a 1-0 win over SCU Torreense in the Segunda Liga. A year on, he opened his account for the team, scoring in another 1-0 victory, this time against Chaves, again in the Segunda Liga.
A right-footed defender, Atanásio is tied to Sporting until June 2027.
