About the player
On 16 April 2026 he came on in the 63rd minute of a Conference League last-16 second-leg tie against Shakhtar Donetsk and set up Matey Shin's goal in a 2-2 draw.
Kovács came through Ajax's academy before AZ signed him in June 2025 after Ajax chose not to renew his contract. He arrived in Alkmaar with a scoring record from Ajax's youth side that stood out: nine goals in six UEFA Youth League matches and fourteen in fourteen league games at Under-19 level in the 2024/25 season.
At AZ he split his time between the reserves and the senior squad. For Jong AZ in the Eerste Divisie he scored eight goals in fourteen appearances in 2025/26, following a debut against Eindhoven in December 2025, then added another goal in his first two matches of the following season. With the first team he made three Eredivisie appearances without scoring.
He was part of the AZ squad that beat PSV 4-0 to win the Johan Cruyff Shield in August 2026, though he did not play in that final. Kovács has moved steadily through Hungary's youth ranks, from the Under-16s through to the Under-19s, scoring against his age group at Under-18 and Under-19 level, and made his senior international debut for Hungary in 2026, appearing twice without finding the net so far.
