About the player
Carlos Aguilar came through Guatemala's youth system with Deportivo Achuapa before a move to Deportivo Malacateco in October 2022 turned into his first real run of senior football, with his top-flight minutes arriving the following year. In July 2025, he joined CSD Municipal as a free agent.
His progress through the national youth ranks was steady rather than dramatic: ten appearances and a goal for Guatemala's under-17 side across 2022 and 2023, four caps at under-18 level in 2024, and thirteen more for the under-20s across 2024 and 2025. That body of work carried him into the senior squad.
The senior call-up came in March 2025, when he was named for a friendly against Honduras and came on at half-time as Guatemala lost 2-1. Days later he featured again, replacing a teammate in the 85th minute of a 2-0 win over Guyana in Gold Cup qualifying. He added a third cap in a 1-1 draw with El Salvador at the end of May, again introduced at the break, and a fourth in a World Cup 2026 qualifier against Jamaica in June, a match Guatemala lost 3-0.
Those four appearances also brought him into a Guatemala squad for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, alongside qualifying duty for the 2026 World Cup — both markers of a defender who, still a teenager when he broke into Malacateco's side, has moved quickly from provincial football into the international set-up.
