About the player
Carlos Javier Airala made his professional debut for Ferro Carril Oeste on 31 March 2018, aged 15 years, 7 months and 6 days — the youngest player to appear for the club in the Argentine Primera División. He came through the Ferro Carril Oeste academy and stayed with the first team until the middle of 2021, making 12 appearances and scoring once in the Primera Nacional, before a contract dispute left him without a club.
In January 2022 Racing Club de Montevideo's future midfielder signed for River Plate as a free agent, reportedly at the request of coach Marcelo Gallardo. He remained with the reserve squad and rescinded his contract in August 2023.
That same month he joined Racing Club de Montevideo in Uruguay, also on a free transfer. He wore number 19 and made eight appearances in the Uruguayan Primera División in the 2024 season without scoring. A loan spell took him to Club Oriental de Fútbol from August to December 2024, after which he returned to Racing before leaving the club permanently in January 2025.
Airala then signed for Albion FC in January 2025, again as a free agent. He has become a regular contributor there, scoring eight goals in 58 appearances across the 2025 and 2026 seasons, and was part of the squad that won the Uruguayan Segunda División title in 2025, earning promotion to the Primera División.
Left-footed and now playing as an attacking midfielder or on the right wing, the Buenos Aires-born player has moved between Argentine and Uruguayan football without a transfer fee changing hands at any stage.
