About the player
The play-off final of the 2023–24 TFF 1. Lig sent Bodrum FK up to the Süper Lig, and Diogo Sousa was the goalkeeper who went with them. He had arrived at the club two seasons earlier on loan from Antalyaspor ; when the loan ran out, Bodrumspor exercised the purchase option and signed him permanently on 1 July 2023.
The route there began in the Algarve. Sousa passed through Ferreiras , Imortal and Clube Académico de Coimbra before joining the Sporting CP academy in 2014. He won the Júnior U19 title with the club in the 2016/17 season, then moved up to Sporting CP B , where he made his professional debut in May 2018.
That was as close as he came at Sporting. From 2019 to 2021 he was registered with the first team and did not make a single senior league appearance for them — two years on the books without a league game. In June 2021 he left on a free transfer to Antalyaspor, signing a four-year contract, and the Turkish move gave him the football the Lisbon one had not.
At 1.98 m he is among the taller goalkeepers in the division. He has won no individual awards and no domestic cups.
