About the player
At ten, on a youth camp in Barcelona, Fran Tomek was picked out as the best player among 300 boys. The same year he joined the academy of GNK Dinamo Zagreb, the club that would keep him for more than a decade.
He grew up in Zagreb and started out at Mladost Zabok and Inter Zaprešić before the move to Dinamo. In the academy he was handed the armband repeatedly — at various youth levels for the club, and for Croatia at U17 and U23. In August 2020 he signed his first professional contract. That season he played in the UEFA Youth League, where Dinamo reached the quarter-finals, and turned out for Dinamo Zagreb II in the 2. HNL.
The step up to senior football proved harder. A loan to HNK Gorica for the first half of 2022/23 brought a single appearance. The second half of that season, on loan at NK Dubrava Zagreb, gave him what the first had not: 14 matches. In September 2023 he left Dinamo on a free transfer and signed for Dubrava outright.
On 16 January 2024 he moved again on a free transfer, this time abroad, to FC Koper. A defensive midfielder, he has yet to win a senior club title or an individual senior award, and has no caps for the Croatian senior side.
