G. Tryggvason

He was born in Norway because his father was working there: Tryggvi Guðmundsson, himself a professional footballer, was at Tromsø IL at the time. The son took the game up in Iceland, joining the youth set-up at KR Reykjavík and moving through the U14, U16 and U19 age groups before the senior debut arrived in 2015.

KR gave him European football early — Europa League ties across the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons — and two Lengjubikarinn titles, in 2016 and 2017. In January 2018 he left for IK Start in Norway, initially on loan. The Start years did not settle into anything: a loan to Víkingur Reykjavík from May 2019 to January 2020 produced 16 league appearances and seven goals, and he was back in Norway permanently the same month. He stayed until May 2021.

Valur Reykjavík paid €70,000 for him in May 2021, and he spent three years there, in the Úrvalsdeild and in Europe — Champions League and Europa Conference League qualifying. He won the Reykjavík Cup in 2022 and the Lengjubikarinn again in 2023.

An attacking midfielder who plays mostly off the left, he returned to KR in August 2024 on undisclosed terms and stayed through the 2025 season and into 2026, then joined FH Hafnarfjörður as a free agent on 1 July 2026.

Iceland called on him repeatedly at youth level and never above it: eight caps at U-21, ten and two goals at U-19, seven at U-18, four each at U-17 and U-16. The senior side has not selected him.
