About the player
The call came nine years into a senior career spent almost entirely at one club. On 25 February 2026, Hans Viktor Guðmundsson came off the bench in the 63rd minute of a friendly against Mexico to replace Guðmundur Kristjánsson — his first cap for Iceland. The match ended in a 4–0 defeat.
Everything before that ran through Fjölnir. He made his senior debut there in 2015 and stayed until the end of 2023, through a stretch in which the club moved up the Icelandic divisions and won promotion to the top flight, the Besta deild karla, in 2018. In 2020 the club's football department named him its sportsperson of the year.
Between 2017 and 2018 he collected 12 caps for the Iceland U-21 side. He also scored a goal at that level.
In January 2024 he left Fjölnir on a free transfer and joined KA Akureyri. No league title or Icelandic Cup has come his way in either spell.
