About the player
Jordan Semedo Varela was born in Nice and came through the youth system there before Monaco's academy picked him up in 2017, taking him through to their B side. He made 21 appearances for Monaco's reserves, scoring once, before the club sent him out on loan to Cercle Brugge in Belgium for the 2023–2024 season, where he featured 14 times.
A free transfer took him to Slavia Sofia in September 2024, and he signed through to 2027. The move gave him regular football in Bulgaria's top flight: 44 league appearances for the club by October 2025, with three goals and an assist, plus two outings in the Bulgarian Cup. He plays as a left-footed defender and wears the number 20 shirt.
Semedo Varela holds dual French and Cape Verdean nationality. He came through France's youth ranks, appearing 11 times each for the under-19 and under-20 sides, before switching allegiance at senior level. He made his debut for Cape Verde's national team in 2025.
