M. Cornejo

Jefferson Farfán, the former Peru striker, used a public platform in February 2023 to call for Cornejo's inclusion in the national squad after a run of performances at Alianza Atlético. The call-up never came: Cornejo has no senior or youth caps for Peru.

He arrived at Alianza Lima's youth system in 2012 and waited seven years for a first-team debut, which came on 19 April 2019 against Universidad San Martín. A loan to Unión Huaral in the Segunda División followed in the second half of that year, put in place to get him minutes. It worked. Back at Alianza for 2020, he logged 995 minutes, scored his first Liga 1 goal against FBC Melgar and featured in the Copa Libertadores.

Then it broke. Three appearances into 2021, a serious injury ended his season. He returned in 2022 and was part of the squad that won the Clausura, scoring in a 5-2 win over Carlos Stein. His contract had been renewed to the end of 2023, but the club did not keep him beyond 2022.

Alianza Atlético signed him on a free in early 2023 and got the best return of his career so far — 21 matches, three goals, four assists. Deportivo Garcilaso took him, again on a free, in March 2024: 13 Liga 1 matches and five in the Copa Sudamericana. In January 2025 he moved to Universidad César Vallejo, dropping to Liga 2 with promotion the stated aim.

Every move in his career has been a free transfer or a loan.
