About the player
Mario Mourelo del Huerto is one of the few footballers from Lugo to end up playing European football abroad. His path started far from any first team of note, moving through the youth ranks at Real Murcia, Hércules CF and UCAM Murcia before turning senior with UD Horadada in 2016. From there he worked his way through the lower rungs of Spanish football — Lorca Fútbol Club 'B', Yeclano Deportivo, SD Formentera, CF Sant Rafel and PE Sant Jordi.
The turn came in 2021, when he left Spain for Italy to join AC Este 1920 in Serie D. A year later, in September 2022, he signed for FC Santa Coloma in Andorra on a free transfer. Over four seasons he became the club's all-time appearance leader, a mark built on 53 league appearances and 14 goals, one cup appearance with a goal, and ten European appearances in the UEFA Europa Conference League that brought him three more goals.
He has not been capped by Spain at senior level.
