About the player
Peter Kováčik scored 15 league goals for Železiarne Podbrezová, which is a notable return for a right-back. He came through the youth ranks in central Slovakia, first at the Hamsik Academy and then at Podbrezová, and made his senior debut for the club in July 2022. Across his time there he played 106 league matches.
His form brought a move abroad. Como signed him in June 2024 for a reported fee of about €600,000, though he stayed at Podbrezová on loan until the end of that season. In September 2024 he went to Poland on loan at Jagiellonia Białystok and played eight league matches there. The loan was ended in February 2025.
Como sent him straight back to Podbrezová for the rest of the 2024/25 season. By September 2025 he was reported to have agreed terms that keep him at the club until June 2027.
Kováčik also played for Slovakia's under-21 side in 2021 and 2022 and earned 11 caps. His first call-up to the senior national team came in 2026, and he made his debut for Slovakia that year.
