About the player
Stefano Russo came up through Hoffenheim's youth system before finishing his development at FC Augsburg, where he made the step into senior football with the reserve side in the Regionalliga Bayern. The defensive midfielder then spent three seasons at SV Waldhof Mannheim in the 3. Liga, a spell that gave him the bulk of his senior appearances and two goals, before a year at Viktoria Köln added further third-tier experience.
His move to Arminia Bielefeld in May 2024 came as a free transfer, and the timing worked out well: the club won the 3. Liga title in the 2024–25 season, reached the final of the DFB-Pokal, and also lifted the Westphalian Cup. Russo was part of that squad throughout the campaign.
At youth international level, Russo was capped by Germany at both under-15 and under-16 level, five appearances in total without scoring, though he has not featured for any senior national side.
Right-footed, Russo now continues his career in the 2. Bundesliga with Arminia Bielefeld, wearing the number 21 shirt.
