About the player
At Klubi 04, HJK's reserve side in the Ykkösliiga, Toivo Mero scored eight goals in 22 appearances during the 2024 season. He added four more goals in 15 matches the following year before HJK Helsinki brought him into the first team.
Mero came through HJK's own youth ranks, having joined as a boy from HPS, and signed his first professional contract with the club at 16 in November 2023. He made ten league appearances alongside cup outings that included a goal in the Finnish Cup. HJK went on to lift the Suomen Cup that year.
The 2026 season showed a marked rise in output. He has represented Finland at under-16 through under-19 level but has not yet been called into the senior national side.
On 14 August 2026, Mero moved to De Graafschap in the Dutch Eerste Divisie. The transfer fee was not disclosed, though Finnish media reported HJK received a significant sum. Mero thanked HJK publicly as he departed.
