Yago Moreira

Yago Moreira arrived at União de Leiria this July after four years in Villarreal's academy, with a contract running to 2028 and an option for two further seasons. Portuguese outlets such as O Jogo and Jornal Record introduced him simply as a Spanish goalkeeper brought in to strengthen the squad, with no transfer fee disclosed.

Moreira is from Pontevedra, and his path started there with local sides EF Villa de Marín, AJ Lérez and EF Portero 2000 before Deportivo de La Coruña took him into their youth ranks, where he featured with the Galicia Under-16 setup. Villarreal signed him in 2022, and he worked his way through the club's C and B teams over the following years.

That development brought international recognition: Moreira was called up to Spain's Under-19 side, training with the squad in September 2024 and then travelling to Romania the following month for the Torneo Internacional de Rumanía, where Spain met Germany, Norway and the hosts. He was not part of the squad that had won the European Under-19 Championship earlier that year.

At 1.92 metres and right-footed, he now takes on a new environment at União de Leiria.
