Albion San Diego

Two men from San Diego kept taking their players across to visit West Bromwich Albion, and in 1981 that habit turned into a youth academy in Point Loma bearing the English club's name and its blue and white. The professional side grew out of that academy decades later, fielding its first competitive team in 2016 in the National Premier Soccer League under the name Albion SC Pros. That same year, a separate outfit, San Diego 1904 FC, was founded by investors that included the footballers Demba Ba and Eden Hazard. The two paths crossed on 9 December 2021, when the clubs merged into the entity now known as Albion San Diego.

The undefeated Southwest Conference title of 2016 and the West Region championship won 2-1 over FC Arizona in 2019 both belong to the old Pros side, before the merger reshaped the club. Under the new name, Albion San Diego reached the National Independent Soccer Association final in 2022, losing 1-0 to Michigan Stars FC, then fell to the same opponent in the semi-finals a year later. In both those seasons the club also ran into San Diego Loyal SC in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup and came away beaten each time.

Games are played at Canyon Crest Academy Stadium, a 2,400-seat ground. Competitive play stopped after the 2023 season, with the club on hiatus since.

Of everyone who passed through the project, it is Eden Hazard whose name travels furthest from San Diego, one of the investors behind 1904 FC before that club folded into Albion.
