Aubel

Royal Aubel keeps its sharpest memories not from a league table but from a friendly. In June 2024, marking 85 years since the club's founding, Aubel hosted Standard Liège and lost 0-5; a return fixture a year later ended 0-3. Neither result mattered in any standings, but the fact that a provincial club from a Walloon town of a few thousand people can still put such a fixture on its calendar says something about where Aubel sits in the game's local order — a small club that never stopped being visited by a big one.

Founded in 1939 as Aubel Football Club, the side spent decades working toward the "Royal" prefix, granted on 1 July 1989. Its one national honour came earlier: promotion out of the fourth-tier Promotion division in the 1986/87 season. By 1994 the club had dropped out of the national pyramid altogether and stayed in provincial football for thirty years, working its way back to Division 3 ACFF only for the 2024/25 season, helped by administrative promotions rather than a single triumphant campaign.

The provincial years still produced silverware of their own kind. Aubel reached the final of the Liège Provincial Cup in 2022 and lost to Étoile Elsautoise, then returned two years later and beat ESFC Geer to win it.

Green and white are the club's colours, and the players go by "Les Herbagers." Home games are played at the Stade Jean-Marie Doome, a 1,500-capacity ground known until 2018 as the Stade Communal before it was renovated and renamed for a member of the club committee.
